Christmas Cheer For Children @ Rosebud Sioux Reservation

By Wilamina Green, 11/12/2015 - 11:34
As your preparing for your Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends I know your being overloaded with Christmas sale ads. Your even being told to boycott a coffee chain over a red cup. For those that do not know I am part Santee Sioux and that makes me part Lakota. As a woman and a mother I think of the many women and children who are at homeless shelters as well as Domestic abuse shelters. I was a woman who was in a shelter and I am a survivor of child sex abuse and domestic abuse who has PTSD. I know what it is like to have nothing yet have hope for a future and know that the shelter is there to help you have a future. Many people think of the shelters in the cities and suburbs but many of us forget of the shelters on the reservations. This is the official month National American Indian Heritage Month, thereafter commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month. I want to help the women and children have a MERRY Christmas at the White Buffalo Calf Woman Society, a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Children in shelter often don’t have any presents at Christmas time. They are anywhere from newborn to 16 years old. The women can use sweaters, warm socks, sleepwear, hygiene items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, tampons, face wash, nail polish, lipstick, eyeshadows, blush, mascara, hair shampoo and conditioner, vitamins. I am collecting from our customers and friends to ship a big box to the shelter at the reservation. If you would like to help me and you live in the Chicagoland area bring your donations to the LRA vendor fair in December. As a THANK YOU for your generous donation you will get a discount on your purchase over $40.00 or more. If you do not want to make a purchase but just want to help these children and women know that people not on the reservation do care and do want them to have a Merry Christmas. I will totally love to accept your donation and ship to the shelter. If your attending the Ohio Smart fetish Fleamarket in Cleveland Ohio on November 21st 2015 . I will be happy to accept your generous donation and give you a discount on your purchase over $ 40.00 or more.If you do not want to make a purchase and simply feel a desire to be a part of this and make a difference for women and children of the Rosebud Sioux tribe please feel free to bring your donation to our booth. On a personal note I know what it is like to be poor as a child not as poor as the children of the reservation but I do know. I work very hard to make a change in lives during the year with use of my boutique. I have been two reservations this year that are part of the Lakota land. I felt a bond a strength when on the land of my ancestors. I saw how hard and simple the life is. I can not imagine how it is at the Rosebud reservation one of the poorest in our country. It is so easy to turn our back on the poorest in our country. There are people who rather help people from another country then help our veterans. There are people who rather focus on a so called war on Christmas then the people who are the future of Native Americans. We need to help those in our country before we can help others from another country. Thank you and Merry Christmas
